Stage 10 – Desert Camp to Abu Simbal.

153km. 5:58 hrs.

Sleeping in the desert was incredible. Millions of stars. It is hard to describe how vast it is. What looks like a lake with birds turns out to be more sand as you approach. It reminds me of craving. Once you get what you crave it begins again.

Broke camp and was on the road by 6:30. Beautiful sunrise over desert. We are headed towards a rest day. The winds were at our back and the roads were pristine, surprisingly there are wide well marked bike lanes with very courteous drivers. I had my first puncture that was easily fixed and got to ride with Harriet the sweep and our doctor to lunch stop. She has traveled and worked in various parts of Africa.

Some of the highlights…

  • Stopping at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere and resting by a guy waiting on a bus.
  • Police letting me draw on and sign their police car. Tailwinds
