Brooms at the market.

Stage 13 and 14 – Dongola Sudan

rest day + 261 miles by bus

Having fallen behind one day because the ferry across lake Nassar was closed, we took a bus to cross the last two sections. This gave us a rest day in Dongola, an ancient city along the Nile. Now days it serves as a bustling market town with a large open air market. I bought a SIM card and got 5gb of data for about $5. That should last until we leave Sudan.

Today was Ryan’s birthday. He is part of the TDA crew and drives the lunch truck, provisions our food and helps Miles the chef.

The market is full of citrus, vegetables and all different kinds of fresh food. We had melon oranges and coffee over looking the Nile.

Eato, Alister, Greg, Marty, Anton and others stayed back from the Pyramid tour and relaxed, got shaved and did laundry and talked with locals. We met a guy that worked at his brothers hardware store and had lived in Dallas for 16 years. Quite a surprise as we have seen no other outsiders here.

Tomorrow is 143km to Dead Camel Camp.
