Our Maasai guides, Joel and Duncan. Their chosen English names.

A break at Maasai Mara Preserve before tackling the final 5000km.

A dozen fresh roses awaited us in our luxurious tent with Ralph Lauren like appointments. Each detail was attended to, which including a hand written note on a hand painted card from Kurt and Petrina.

Hippos, herons, crocodiles swallows, fish eagles and many other animals are in or around the river just below. Giraffes graze in trees on the far bank. An elephant trail is just behind.

Our host Minnie, an African from the Kukuyi tribe, had worked at the camp of Abercrombie and Kent a short distance away and a resort in upstate New York. She is well versed in many topics and makes sure our every comfort is met.

Our drivers and guides are genuine Maasai that are deeply knowledgeable of the animals and eco systems of this beautiful preserve.

It is rare that one can spend any time without seeing some animal large or small.

Yesterday we saw a large heard of water buffalo on the Savannah in the golden grass green from rain. Gazelles, impalas, zebra, elephant and Topi’s grazed nearby.

One can imagine that a large heard of bison would look similar before they and the grasslands disappeared.

Below is a list of just some of the animals that we have seen in just two days, usually at very close range.
