Stage 76 – Windhoek to Weissenfel Camp
124km, 6:10 hrs, 18.2kph, 1160m (3848 vertical feet) approx.
All but 20kms were dirt, gravel. Some complained about the corrugations (wash board) but riding up to seven springs was good practice.
Beautiful open space. I thought I was in Arizona. Intense blue skies. Large birds of prey. Flowers. Wild troops of Baboons. The kind of openess that makes you feel like a small dot.
After two rest days my body felt good. Heart rate was above 130 for most of the ride and maxed at 157. A sign I’m feeling much better.
A couple from Switzerland riding the other way. We spoke about the journey was like peeling an onion. It strips you of who you think you are. They started in Cape Town and were riding to Switzerland.
Rode with Alex, just back from London, who just said goodbye to one of her best friends that died of cancer. A fresh appreciation of what’s important for us all.
We are at a ranch. Horses, prickly pear. I am camped under a pepper tree.
Tonight I have invited several of the science and business guys to listen to a talk by Sam Harris on Artificial Intelligence. We are calling it the first Namibian AI conference, which it may well be.
Grateful for nice equipment, a good bike, sleeping bag and speaking to my wife last night.
This journey and your life’s journey touches many people with the love you share in their presence.
We await your return to AZ; however, thrilled you over came all obstacles (Cracked ribs, no bike arriving, bike parts, sickness, etc.) and continue on your amazing trip to Cape Town!
Peddle On………………………..Steve
