Tea time Farkha Sudan

Stage 12 – Wadi Halfa to Farrah

152km 6:30 minutes riding time

We covered 100 miles with some hills and headwinds. We are crossing a part of the great expanse of the Nubian desert. The Sahara begins just west of us.

Arriving at camp yesterday evening we were greeted by a money changer who offered 29 Sudanese Dollars to one US. I was a millionaire!

A small glass of sweet tea that night was fifteen cents.

Unlike Egypt there is no pressure to buy things and the price is the same for tourists and locals.

Sudan has a softness and gentleness to it.

By the time we got to camp a swim in the cool waters of the Nile made for an invigorating evening. Most of us were ready for bed by 6:30.

Highlights of the day:

  • Friendliness of people
  • Getting detained in off limits mining town
  • Swimming in the Nile with Trixi and Katherine
  • Clear call to prayer at 4:30 am

Note: Sudan is a dry country and woman are discouraged from showing any skin.
