Stage 17 – Desert Camp to Abu Dolooa
148m, 5hrs riding time
More wind directly on our tails. Lifted along we passed small vendors selling water melon out in the middle of the desert.
Small trees are starting to appear. Another night of desert camping. I love my little tent and am grateful for the advice from Mike to get one that closes up. The strong winds that blow us along causes blowing sand and challenges setting tents up at night. Tonight we are camped by a small village. Small carts pulled by donkeys wait in line to fill their tanks which are 55 gallon drums.
Highlights:
- Helping a guy replace his axel on the side of the road.
- Getting a handful of dates from a stranger.
- Great watermelon at lunch stop.
- Average speed of 30kmh.
Two young boys saw me ride by and gave chase with their donkey carts.
Great cause! STEP
I’m surprised you’re able to close up your tent! When I tried that in the winds on the PCT, it caused my tent to (almost) blow over! Afraid that the force would break my tent poles (disaster!) I gave up and left everything wide open with just the tent body with netting- no rainfly- and was covered in sand the next morning.
And now I’m all caught up on your journey! Safe travels and I look forward to hearing more when you’re Stateside!
You GO Morris! You are doing sooo great! Keep riding, and keep up the blog. Love the pictures too. It is wonderful to hear what happens each day on a personal level! With best regards Gillian Hauer (I’m a friend of one of your co-riders Karen Robyn). I so support your cause, I’m a dual USA/Canadian Citizen 🙂 <3
From my view, days and miles seem to be going rather quickly.
I certainly hope that is true for Morris and all the riders.
Photos are amazing keep them coming.
Sending our love & support 😘 peddle on…………..🚴🏼♂️
