Stage – 21 – Bush Camp to Gedarif

133 km 5:56 hrs riding time (25kph avg)

Toughest one yet. Gnarly crosswinds with gust to 40mph. That eventually turned into a quartering headwind. The Dutch riders were right at home. A couple riders got blown off the road and had minor bumps.

The land has turned to vast fields that have been harvested. Their are clusters of houses with thatched roofs that look like tops of missiles, very good in this windy country.

A group of us stopped for the small glasses of sweet tea just past the 100km mark. We agreed that it was the best tea yet. It contained a small pinch of ground cloves.

Highlights:

  • Learning to ride in very high crosswinds and headwinds.
  • Catching and riding the draft of a tractor trailer to 50 + kph!
  • Making it to camp and taking a bucket shower.

Not many bikes in Sudan. Here a guy uses it to haul sugar cane.

Harriet, our doctor, gives talk on CPR and heat stroke while Neil (from just out side Dublin Ireland) prepares to get Heimlich maneuver.

Last day in Sudan. This is how our nightly instructions look.

Play time around the well.
