Stage 33 – Konso to Yabello
87km, 18.3 kph, avg 2600 vertical 6hrs
This ride had a little of everything as we continued south to the Kenya border. I think everyone was happy to be back on their bikes after the three days we spent visiting tribes in the Omo Valley.
Albert from Germany had nine flats and Gary had six or seven. Albert, an engineer, discovered his was a rotten inner tube. Gary, the chief engineer for Washington DC rail system, had faulty rim tape. The road was a mixture of a new highway being built by Chinese to rugged dirt and rocks. There was a fair amount of climbing and stiff headwind.
Highlights:
- Reduced number of people made land seem less stressed
- Many high termite mounds.
- Friendly people (mostly)
