Kenyan Wheat Farms

Stage 40 – Isiolo to Nanuki

71km 4:20 – 16.6 avg 4500 vertical

Climbing to about 8000, everything changes, looking like eastern Idaho farm country, wheat farms, potatoes, pines and other trees. At top coffee shop that could have been in Sonoma wine country. A hot coffee and french fries.

Speaking with a guy we find out the Farm is 10,000 acres. Owned by fourth generation European family.

After lunch we descend into Nanuki.

We have had the option of participating in a scavenger hunt. Our team is called Beethoven’s fifth movement. We are Tom Woodard retired IT guy from UK, Eado from Holland, Terry from Melborne and Karen from Vancouver. Our job is to perform a set of tasks throughout the day. Photo of team in smallest space, poem, learn something from a local, have a drink with a local, transport six raw eggs and various other tasks. These item were then to be presented to a panel of judges while dressed in drag. Men dress as woman and vice versa. This to commemorate crossing the equator. The competition was fierce and creative.

We have crossed the equator and have finished about 5000 km or 3500 miles. I just now am feeling that I am getting into shape. The bike is starting to feel comfortable and I can do a few sit ups. Still a little sore.
