Richard and I head to town on Bike taxi’s

Master wood carver made this bike, wheels turn, shifter works, it even has functional brakes.

Stage 56 – Kasungu to Lilongwe

129km 4:46 hrs 25.8kph
Rode with Richard, Craig, Marty and Neil.  They are the fastest group.  Richard is an Iron Man Competitor and Craig is a marathon runner and ultra race mountain biker, so I was glad to keep up.  They invited me to ride with them so let’s see what happens.
Got an early start and made camp at 11:00-ish. Nice spot and nice weather.  First day I rode with a group and felt good to have a short day.  It is nice to get in early and get a shower and do laundry. I also realize it gives me more time to recover.
Craig’s wife arrived from Cape Town with the part for my bike last night.  Still amazing that they went to all that trouble to help me out.  Hopefully I can get my bike fixed today so I can get Harriet’s back to her.
Lilongwe is the largest city in Malawi, it turns out I have friends here, which I hope to visit tomorrow.
Highlights:
  • Getting to camp early.
  • Rest day.
  • Living simply.
  • Nice grassy spot for tent.
