Riding in Zambia
Stage 57 – Lilongwe to Chipata Zambia
152km 5.5hrs 25kph (aprox)
Six countries down, four to go.
Well, the part that was flown up from Cape Town to Malawi by Craig’s wife turned out to be the wrong part. The spindle length was too short for the frame I have.
So, Craig contacted his brother that happened to be in Johannesburg on business and had him get one from a Bike shop there and will try to DHL to Lusaka. I just got to figure out how to pay the guy back.
In the meantime, I caught Agnes cold or flu, so today was tricky keeping up with the boys.
The border crossing was smooth and costs $50. The place we are camped had warm showers heated by wood.
The town of Chipata is large and we had vanilla ice cream cones. What a treat. I’m all in and it is just after six, I’m going to try and turn in. Tomorrow is a big day with 172 km (115 miles) and about 5000’ climbing.
Thank you for keeping us posted on your progress! It defies my imagination how tasty that vanilla ice cream must have been given the long rides you’ve had.
Dear Morris: I so hope your bike gets it’s needed parts! I am so enjoying your posts, sometimes with trepidation! It all looks so amazing on this crazy biking expedition from Cairo to Cape Town. Really bloody amazing. May the wind be at your back! Please say hi to Karen … she is one of your bike mates & I’ve been following her blog too!! xoxo Gillian
PS: I hope you feel better and did not get the cold/flu thingy from Agnes! Got my fingers crossed <3
