Stage 66 – Victoria Falls to Kasane Botswana
102km 4:01 hrs 25.3 kmh
When I left off I had taken a bus from Lusaka to Livingstone Zambia which bypassed three stages, we also had three rest days in Livingstone so I had seven rest days as I had taken the truck the day before the bus.
When the glasses got swept off my face Agnes and I both had a laugh. I found an optician that came in on his day off to get me fixed up and made some lenses that were ready the next day!
Instead of staying in the tent I found a quite Lodge that was really nice and used by Zambia business people. A great place to rest up and a nice safe little town.
I realized that sometimes when you think things are bad they are actually getting good.
Seven countries down three to go.
Back on my own bike with relatively short day. Missed turn and got about 20 bonus kilometers. Oh boy! Felt pretty good to be on Bike again.
Saw a troop of Baboons and elephant.
Crossed river on old barge that went through four countries. See Michael Coo, of TDA’s, description below:
The Kazungula River Crossing is the only place in the world where you can ride across 4 countries in 500 metres. It is officially a crossing between Zambia and Botswana but, as the ferry struggles and smokes from one side to the other during the 8-15 minute crossing it pushes upstream towards an island that is in Namibia before drifting downstream to the other side. Incredibly, the landing on the Botswana side happens on a spur that is actually Zimbabwean soil!
Highlights:
- Seven countries down.
- Nice cool riding
- Beautiful sunrise.
