Our instructions for the day
Sunset, I was too tired to even notice the beauty
Frank from Canada
Stage 86 Garies to Strandfontain.
163km, 8:15 hrs, 18.6 kph climbing, 7k’ (aprox)
I’ve been told that In Afrikaans, Strand is Beach and Fontaine is Fountain or Spring
The morning started nicely with rain water coffee and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata at a B&B with Craig, Frank and Tom. Why Moonlight Sonata? Because Craig said if he had to listen to one song for the rest of his life it would be that one. I like it too.
Then we usually transition into Leonard Skynard Alabama or Chris Rea’s Road to Hell or AC/DC’s Thunderstruck or Ramblin’ Man by the Allman Brothers. Or something else that may tie to the day. I bought a cheap speaker a while ago and have been playing music starting at 05:30 as we pack up our tents. It’s a nice ritual.
So the day started good and went completely to hell. Could have been the hills, headwind or just the fatigue of the last 7000 miles but I felt done after the first hour. Managed to make it through the day.
I went to sleep at 7:30.
